Come with us on a journey through realities. WHAT’S LEFT is an interactive videoguide that takes you on a journey through realities. WHAT’S LEFT is a walk through empty rooms in search for a performance that might only exist in the virtual world. You get to choose the direction the guide takes you but if you choose to go right - what’s left?
With filmed videoguides in surf tablets the visitors get a unique journey through the space they are in, seeing both the fiction and the real world simultaneously. In real life there is door in front of you but in the tablet the door opens and someone stands there, tells you a story. But let’s say there are two doors and you have to chose one or the other. If you chose to go through the one on the right - what’s behind the left?
The idea for WHAT’S LEFT was born somewhere between two contrasting phenomena. One: how information disseminates from more places than ever and keeps circulating, informning the world about private lives and politics world wide from non-official perspectives. Thanks to smartphones, Youtube and Twitter the world can take part of events from a swarm of perspectives. Two: the often expressed fear of technology killing face-to-face communication. That Modem Generation wanted to put this conflict in the midst of their artistic research concerning integrating digital applications and virtual spaces with the theatre event."The participation we strive towards is not just an aesthetic identification for the initiated gamers but a model where the spaces for action we create re-engages with our political reality in unexpected ways. A poetics of spaces of appearance." (Stefan Stanisic and Emma Bexell)
During 2013 That Modem Generation made four public work-in-progress performances at different sites in Sweden to collect research material for the WHAT’S LEFT production. Thus being able to try out different ways of showing the relationship between us and our technology, between public space, theatre space and virtual reality. WHAT’S LEFT premieres in Malmö at Inkonst and will also be playing in Helsinki (Blaue Frau’s Pop Up Art House at Diana) Stockholm (Orionteatern) and Copenhagen.
